1978 Sparky Anderson Cincinnati Reds Tour of Japan Game Worn Uniform
Fantastic game-worn jersey once belonging to Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson while with the Cincinnati Reds for their Tour of Japan in 1978. This was actually Sparky's very last Reds road jersey as he was let go by the Reds upon his arrival home from the tour. Anderson helmed the "Big Red Machine" teams from the 1970s and won two World Series with the club. Even a successful trip to Japan in which the Reds finished with a record of 14-2-1, which came on the heels of the Reds finishing second in the NL, wasn't enough to save his job. The all original road jersey has "CINCINNATI" and "10" on the front and "ANDERSON" and "10" on the back. It shows moderate use with a Rawlings size 40 tag inside the front tail. Interestingly, the Tour of Japan was the only time that the Reds wore Rawlings road jerseys. We can't confirm that the pants were Sparky's but they are a nice match to the jersey, with Rawlings size 32, Set 2 1978, and Inseam 22" tags in the waist band.
