1979 National Baseball Hall of Fame Plaque - Sportswriter's Wing
A sportswriting fixture in St. Louis, Bob Broeg patrolled the baseball scene in the Gateway City for four decades. Honored by the Baseball Writers Association of America, this is the original J.G. Taylor Spink award which was bestowed upon Broeg at the Hall of Fame in 1980. Rarely seen, this handpainted 11x14.5" framed piece lists career highlights and came right off the wall of Mike Shannon's St. Louis restaurant. Among other distinctions, Broeg is credited with coining the nickname Stan "The Man" Musial, and is himself a part of the city's sports folklore. There are some light scratches on the frame, which remains a beautiful work.
