1979 Phil Niekro 200th Win Game Collection
It doesn't get too much more complete than this wide assortment of relics from May 1, 1979, when the Hall of Fame pitcher racked up his 200th win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 1) Game Worn Jersey: Road grey pullover with "Atlanta 35" on chest, and "Niekro 35" on verso. "Wilson [size] 44" tagging in collar, with "79" stitched in blue thread in tail. 2) Game Worn Cap: Heavily sweat-stained "New Era [size] 7 3/8" cap has number "35" in marker under visor, with Niekro's NRMT black sharpie signature and inscription reading, "200th Win, May 1-1979." 3) Game Used Baseball: ONL (Feeney) ball shows fine use and is inscribed, "Phil Niekro, Atlanta Braves, May 1, 1979, 200th Win, Braves 5, Pirates 2." 4) Line-up Card: Lists batting orders of both teams. Once hung in Braves dugout. Inscribed identically to cap. 9x14". 5) Empty Champagne Bottle and Five Corks: Part of the post-game celebration. Bottle's label is marked (not in Niekro's hand), "Phil Niekro 200th Win." 6) Two Photographs (8x10"): Niekro on the mound, and after the game with champagne in hand. He wears the uniform in each, and each is inscribed identically to cap. NRMT. 7) LOA on Braves letterhead in Niekro's hand attesting to the provenance of the uniform.
