1979 Sugar Ray Leonard Signed On-Site Poster
<p>Significant autographed find from Sugar Ray Leonard's early professional years. Poster promotes the fight at the Capital Centre, in Landover, Maryland, as the "Mid-Atlantic Welterweight Championship" against Johnny Gant. From the time Sugar Ray was on the ascent in pro boxing, prior to winning World titles in five different weight classes and becoming the undisputed Welterweight Champion. One of the most popular fighters ever, Leonard is in the International Boxing Hall of Fame and in 2002 was ranked by The Ring as the 9th best boxer in the past 80 years. Signed by Leonard, near his photo and name. Leonard also inscribed, "Peace and Thanks 79," referring to his Olympic Gold Medal as a light welterweight in the 1979 Olympics in Montreal, Canada. The poster promotes the fight by touting Leonard as "Olympic Gold Medalist and Undefeated". Poster has some bending in one corner, otherwise good condition. Mounted to a foam core (22x28.25").</p>
