Complete set of 1979 Topps hockey cards featuring SGC 70 (5.5) Wayne Gretzky rookie card. The Great One joined the NHL in '79 with the Edmonton Oilers after a tumultuous year in the WHA, which was partially absorbed into the NHL. As part of the 1979 NHL Expansion Draft, former WHA teams were allowed to protect two goaltenders and two skaters, of which Gretzky fell into the latter category. It proved to be a shrewd move by the Oilers, as Gretzky went on to win his first of eight consecutive Hart Trophies in his rookie year. Gretzky also led the Oilers to four Stanley Cups during his tenure in Edmonton. This fantastic set serves as a great time capsule for the genesis of one of hockey's brightest stars and also comes with a sealed pack. Overall NM with some better.
