1980-83 Fred Lynn/Carl Yastrzemski Signed Game Used Bat
Fred Lynn Louisville Slugger pro-model ("D113") bat dating from the 1980-1983 manufacturing period. The bat, which measures 34 inches and weighs 32.75 ounces, is not cracked and displays outstanding use, including ball marks, rack marks, and light pine tar on the handle. The bat also once had a wrap of tape along the handle that has been removed (the outline of the former tape application is clearly visible). Both the number "8" and the word "Game" are written on the knob in black marker. It's important to note that the number "19" is also written on the knob, with the "8" now partially covering it. Fred Lynn was number "19" with the Red Sox during his seven-year career with Boston (1974-1980), while Carl Yastrzemski wore number "8" during his entire tenure with the club (1961-1983). Lynn was traded to the California Angels prior to the 1981 season. Therefore, given the two numbers, it appears that this bat was ordered and used by Lynn in 1980, and then also used by Carl Yastrzemski. (The tape on the handle and the word "Game" on the knob are characteristics of Yastrzemski game-used bats.) Lynn has signed the bat in blue Sharpie (grading 10/10) on the "sweet spot" of the barrel. Fred Lynn and Carl Yastrzemski were two of Boston's best players during the era and the fact that this bat was used by both makes it especially desirable.
