1980 Steve Stone Baltimore Orioles Game Worn Jersey - Cy Young Award Season
Baltimore Orioles home jersey worn by pitcher Steve Stone during his 1980 Cy Young Award-winning season. The white knit jersey is lettered "Orioles" across the front and features the number "32" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in orange on black tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Descente" label and white strip tag bearing the uniform number, size, and year ("32 42 80"). Stone's name on the reverse of the jersey has been removed and the both the front and rear tails have been custom trimmed. The name "Snell" is written in the collar in black marker, while the the name "Nate" is written in black marker on the "Descente" label. Those alterations indicate that the jersey was most likely sent down to the minors following the 1980s season or was used by another player during the 1981 spring training season (a common practice at the time). The jersey displays moderate wear, including light, scattered staining on the front and reverse. Steve Stone enjoyed a career year in 1980, winning a league-high 25 games and recording a 3.23 ERA. Those numbers later earned him the Cy Young Award at season's end.
