1980s A.J. Foyt Race Worn Suit

1980s A.J. Foyt Race Worn Suit

<p>Race car driver A. J. Foyt is the only race car driver to have won the Indianapolis 500 (accomplished 4-times), the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours at Le Mans. He started racing with midgets in 1953 when he was 18 years old. Three years later, he moved to sprint cars. Since then, he's raced practically everything. He won the International Race of Champions All-Star racing series in 1976 and 1977. In the NASCAR stock circuit, he won the 1964 Firecracker 400 and the 1972 Daytona 500. Foyt is in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame, the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, the American National Sports Car Hall of Fame, and the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame, Foyt has survived three racing wrecks that caused him serious injury, yet he says, "It's more secure on a racetrack than on a Houston expressway. That's how I feel." Perhaps to gather the courage to race, a driver must feel that way. In any event, Foyt recovered from all of the injuries to resume racing. After his racing career ended, he has run A.J. Foyt Enterprises, fielding cars in CART, IRL, and NASCAR. The race does not have a size listed. It is tagged in the collar "Bell/Racestar" and the tag states the garment is made of flame-resistant material. Underneath the above-named tag is a smaller tag reading, "Flame resistant NOMEX III". On the outside front of the neck is a tag reading, "Bell Racestar". Epaulets on each shoulder read, "GILMORE". On the right chest is a name tag "A.J. Foyt Jr.". The back of the racing suit has an embroidered "Goodyear", and lettering reading, "Gilmore Copenhagen". A patch with an American flag is on the left shoulder and a "Racestar patch on the right shoulder. The front exhibits advertising patches for: "Champion", "9", Copenhagen", Valvoline", and "Goodyear", and a large "Copenhagen" ad across the chest. The suit features large orange stripes on the sleeves and pants. The suit exhibits great wear: There are various small stains, loose threads, some minor discoloration, and some piling. The front zipper does not work. A.J. Foyt was a world acclaimed driver, the real deal, and this race worn suit, with its great use, and with all of its A.J. Foyt names, advertising, and sponsor patches, is also the real deal - and a great keepsake for any racing fan.</p>
