1981 Boston Celtics World Championship Ring
It seems unfathomable but in 1981, weeknight games during the NBA Finals were TAPE DELAYED on CBS, airing at 11:30 pm (the last year of that ridiculous practice). The Celtics defeated the Rockets in six games that spring, and all Boston employees were gifted the same championship rings players such as Larry Bird and MVP Cedric Maxwell received. This specific Size 11.5 ring was awarded to someone known as "HORAN" as that name appears on the right shank. Horan was likely a member of the board of trustees that season. Around the rim on the top is "BOSTON CELTICS WORLD CHAMPIONS" with green shamrock and diamond in the center. The left shank reads: "1981" with the NBA logo in the center. The team logo and "PRIDE" are set below "HORAN." The ring - which shows some wear but still grades EX and presents very nicely - is stamped 14K inside. That year's Houston club remains the last Finals participant to finish the season with a losing record as the Rockets were 40-42 before rattling off playoff upsets en route to the Western Conference title.
