John Banaszak was a defensive end on three Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champions, and offered is the opportunity to possess a 1981 game worn photo-matched John Banaszak Steelers jersey. Banaszak played college football at Eastern Michigan, and he was a Marine Corps veteran when he made the Pittsburgh Steelers squad in 1975 as an undrafted player. At 6'3", 242 lbs, Banaszak was a contributor on special teams when Pittsburgh defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl X after the 1975 season. After a 1977 knee injury, Banaszak recovered and played 45 consecutive games at defensive end for Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain Defense. The highlight of Banaszak's pro career was Super Bowl XIII when the Steelers defeated Dallas 35-31, and Banaszak was named Defensive Player of the Game as he had six tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Banaszak was still a starter at defensive end when Pittsburgh won a second consecutive Super Bowl in defeating the Los Angeles Rams 31-19 in Super Bowl XIV. In his NFL career, Banaszak played in 91 games over seven seasons, and had five fumble recoveries and 22.5 sacks. After his NFL play, he was in the USFL for three seasons and became a college head coach at William Morris. The jersey is photo-matched by Davious Sports to a game on November 29, 1981. the black jersey has gold, white, and black trim. The front and both sleeves have "76" in sewn-on white numerals. The back has a black nameplate with "BANASZAK" in gold block lettering. The jersey shows fantastic use. All of the numbering is original. The nameplate is vintage, but was reapplied at one time, as was very common with Steelers' jerseys of this era. The great use includes team repairs, scuffs, loose threads, and lots of pilling. A Steelers Exclusive tag, an 81-year tag and a Medalist Sand-Kit size 50 tag are on the front tail. This game worn jersey is a wonderful memento of the great Steel Curtain Defense of the great Super Bowl dynasty of the Pittsburgh Steelers and right defensive end, John Banaszak. The jersey comes with a Davious Photo-Matched Letter of Opinion, including photos of the jersey.
