1982 Tony Perez Boston Red Sox Signed Game Worn Jersey
"Big Doggie" was his nickname and Hall of Famer Tony Perez played 23 seasons in the Major Leagues, most famously as a key member of the Cincinnati Reds' Big Red Machine, a team that won four National League pennants and two World Series between 1970-76. Perez played from 1964-86, spending parts of 16 seasons in two stints with Cincinnati, and also spending three years with the Montreal Expos, a season with the Philadelphia Phillies, and three years with the Boston Red Sox (1980-82). A first baseman and third baseman, Perez was known for his ability to drive in runs, and he had 1,652 RBIs in his career, with 379 homers while batting .279. In 1982, when the offered game used Red Sox jersey was worn by Perez, Tony was already 40 years old and he was used mostly as a DH and pinch hitter, batting .260 in 215 at-bats, with six homers and 31 RBIs. The gray polyester away jersey has "BOSTON" in Navy blue block letters across the chest. There are loose threads throughout the "BOSTON" lettering on front. A Wilson manufacturer's tag is on the lower left outside tail. Under the manufacturer's tag is a sewn in "82" swatch. There is a very small stain on the lower outside right tail. On back is the Navy-blue numeral "5," sewn on, and with some loose threads. The jersey shows light use, and it is in excellent condition. Perez has signed the jersey on the upper right chest. Using a black marker and writing neatly, Perez has written his signature and inscribed "HOF 2000/#5." This is a rare Hall of Famer Tony Perez Red Sox game worn jersey, the only one we have ever seen.
