1982 Willie Stargell Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

1982 Willie Stargell Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

Presented is a game used Pittsburgh Pirate home jersey worn by Hall of Famer Willie "Pops" Stargell, the emotional leader of the Pittsburgh Pirates. During a home game in 1979, the Pirates were in a rain delay, and the Sister Sledge song "We Are Family" was playing in the stadium. Stargell asked the Pirates' public relations director to announce on the scoreboard that "We Are Family" is the "Official Theme Song of the 1979 Pirates." The announcement was placed on the scoreboard, the Pirates rallied in the game in the bottom of the ninth with four runs for a walk-off victory, and the rest is history. The Pirates won the pennant and then World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. Stargell was both the NLCS, World Series, and National League MVP. The outfielder hit 475 career homers, all for Pittsburgh, in his 21-year career. The gold jersey shows great use. There is frayed stitching on the back of the neck and on the sewn "Stargell" name plate on the back. The jersey shows "8" on the front and back. The jersey is tagged " 8 82" on the front and it has a Wilson size "48" tag in the neck. This game used jersey represents a great opportunity to obtain a nostalgic item that brings back the glory days of "Pops" Stargell and the "We Are Family" Pirates.
