1984-85 Nolan Ryan Game Used Houston Astros Road Jersey
This classic Astros "psychedelic parfait" jersey is a groovy bonbon from Ryan's third big-league incarnation, the "Texas period", spent with his hometown Astros from 1980-88. During this stint, "Ryan's Express" racked up strikeouts 3,000 and 4,000 (and reached the 2,000 mark in each circuit), and led the NL in ERA twice. A Ryanesque aspect of the jersey is that it was worn in the '84 and '85 seasons, when injuries limited him to 12-11 and 10-12 records and fed speculation that he was through. But Ryan, who hit age 40 in '87, had nearly another decade of strikeouts in his brine-soaked whiplash right arm, en route to 7 no-hitters and 5,714 K's. The grey road jersey has "Astros" and the "lone star" screened across the chest in blue and "Ryan" (on an attached platel) and "34" stitched on the back in blue tackle twill. The team's infamous "rainbow" stripes, a motif then in vogue, traverse the shoulders and blue columns run down each side and around the neck. "Medalist Sand-Knit (size) 44" and official Astros tags are on the lower front hem. Ryan signed this fabulous jersey high on the left chest in black marker, grading 8/10 and making the jersey a well-rounded treasure, preserving the peerless achievements of a peerless Hall of Famer.
