1984 Lou Piniella New York Yankees Game Worn Jersey

Displayed is a beautiful 1984 Lou Piniella New York Yankees pinstriped game worn home jersey from Piniella's final year as a player. Piniella played 18 seasons of Major League ball, breaking in during the 1982 season with the Baltimore Orioles. After playing briefly for the Cleveland Indians in 1983, Piniella won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 1984 with the Kansas City Royals. He is most noted for his 11 years as a Yankee, 1974-84. An outfielder, Piniella had a lifetime .291 batting average, with 102 home runs. He was a 2-time World Series Champion as a player with the Yankees. In the season Piniella wore the offered jersey, he saw limited action, yet managed to hit .302. He was known as a clutch player and played in four World Series, with a lifetime World Series batting average of .319. After his retirement as a player, Piniella had a 23-year career as a Major League manager. He was a 3-time winner of the Manager of the Year Award and was the manager of the 1990 Cincinnati Reds World Champions. Piniella managed five Major League teams, including three years with the Yankees. Piniella was no shrinking violet as a manager, and he once commented on the Yankee owner, George Steinbrenner, also no shrinking violet, and Piniella's boss when Lou managed the Bronx Bombers: "George (Steinbrenner) is a great guy, unless you have to work for him." The Piniella jersey is white, with navy blue pinstripes and numerals. Embroidered in navy blue thread on a tag in the collar is "Pinella 84 2." Buttons run down the middle of the front. On the back, in navy blue numerals is "14." The jersey is tall trimmed. The jersey exhibits light use, and it is in excellent condition.
