1984 Tony Armas Boston Red Sox Game Worn Jersey
Presented is a Tony Armas game worn 1984 Boston Red Sox home jersey. Armas, from Venezuela, played 14 Major League seasons: Pittsburgh Pirates (1976), Oakland Athletics (1977-82), Boston Red Sox (1983-86) and California Angels (1987-89). His best years were the four years he was on the Red Sox, when he was 29-32 years old - his prime. His first two years as a Red Sox were wonderful. The right-handed hitting outfielder hit 36 home runs and drove in 107 runs in 1983. The next year, his finest year and the season Armas wore this jersey, he belted 43 homers and 123 RBI. In '84, Armas also won a Silver Slugger Award and was an All-Star. The 2-time American League All-Star finished his career with 260 home runs, 815 RBIs and a .252 batting average. The white jersey has red and navy trim. "RED SOX" is across the chest in red letters with navy trim. Seven silver colored buttons go down the front. On the lower left outside tail is a Wilson manufacturer's tag showing size "44" and giving washing instructions. Below that is a tag reading, "84," for year. Above the size tag is a tapered hang tag. The jersey shows light wear and is in excellent condition. On the back is "20" in red numerals with navy trim. The son of Tony Armas, Tony Armas Jr, was a Major League pitcher, mostly for the Montreal Expos/Wasington Nationals. Tony Armas Sr. is a member of the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame, the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Venezuelian Baseball Hall of Fame.mTony Armas was a Boston Red Sox fan favorite, and this game worn jersey makes a great collectible because it represents such a beloved Red Sox Nation player, and it is from the best year Tony Armas ever had in baseball.
