1985 Danny Ainge Boston Celtics Game Worn Preseason Jersey
Danny Ainge played 14 seasons in the NBA, mainly as a shooting guard, and primarily for the Boston Celtics (1981-89). Ainge later played for the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, and Phoenix Suns. Displayed is a Danny Ainge Boston Celtics Wilson manufactured game worn preseason jersey. Ainge was a 2-time NBA Champion with the Celtics, and an NBA All-Star in '88. Ainge joins Dave DeBusschere, Gene Conley, Dick Groat and others as being one of only 13 men in history who played both in the NBA and in Major League Baseball. Ainge played three seasons as an infielder for the Toronto Blue Jays. In 1985, the Wilson Sporting Goods Company was trying to get teams in the NBA to wear Wilson uniforms, and the Sacramento Kings wore Wilson uniforms on the road. The Wilson jerseys were heavier than the Sand-Knit jerseys that the Celtics were using. The Celtics had no problem wearing Wilson jerseys in the preseason but stayed with Sand-Knit jerseys in the regular season. Ainge averaged 10.7 PPG and 5.1 APG in the 1985-86 season as the Celtics became NBA Champions. For his NBA career, Ainge averaged 11.5 PPG. Later, he became a head coach with the Phoenix Suns and then the Celtics' President of Basketball Operations from 2003-2021. The offered mesh white jersey has a Wilson manufacturer's tag on the left outside waist. That Wilson tag shows a size "44." Below the Wilson tag is a "3-inch x-length" tag. On the front is CELTICS in green, sewn-on letters. Below that is 44, in green, sewn-on numerals. The back shows AINGE in green, sewn-on letters and below the name is 44 in green, sewn-on numerals. The jersey has green and white trim. Also included is a letter from the gentleman who received the jersey from a Celtics clubhouse man. The jersey shows slight wear, and there is a very small (approx. 0.25") stain at the bottom of the back waist. Overall, the jersey is in EXCELLENT condition.
