1985 Pete Rose 4,191 Record Tying Hit Full Ticket PSA VG-EX 4

1985 Pete Rose 4,191 Record Tying Hit Full Ticket PSA VG-EX 4

Presented is a rare full ticket for the day game on September 8, 1985, at Chicago's Wrigley Field in which Pete Rose tied the all-time MLB career record for hits set by Ty Cobb at 4,191. That day, Cincinnati Reds' player-manager Pete Rose had scheduled right-handed swinging Tony Perez to play first base at Wrigley Field against the expected Chicago Cubs' starter, left-hander Steve Trout. Then, Trout was injured that morning in a bicycle accident, and the Cubs went with right-handed emergency starter Reggie Patterson, so switch-hitter Rose put himself in the starting line-up at first base, to bat lefty against Patterson. Rose singled in the first inning for his 4,190th hit. In the third inning, Rose again faced Patterson and grounded out. With Patterson still pitching in the fifth inning. Rose singled to right-field to tie Cobb at 4,191 hits. With the Wrigley Field fans loudly cheering for Rose to break the record, Rose grounded out in the seventh inning against reliever Lary Sorenson. After an over two-hour rain delay in the bottom of the eighth, the game resumed, and in Rose's final at bat, in the ninth inning, he struck out. This was in the days before Wrigley Field had lights, and with the score 5-5, the game was suspended after nine full innings because of darkness. Rose broke the record on September 11th, three days later, at home in Cincinnati. The 1.5x4.5" full ticket has been encapsulated and graded PSA VG-EX 4. This full ticket of Rose's record-tying hit is much rarer than the record-breaking ticket, as there have only been nine of these graded by PSA.
