1985 Pete Rose Game Used Mizuno PR4192 Bat (33”)
Here it is, the Pete Rose bat every collector salivates over -- the rarest of all Rose lumber, the Mizuno PR4192, the model Charlie Hustle used for each plate appearance from hit number 4001 all the way through breaking Ty Cobb’s hit record with number 4192. What’s more, this one is a dead solid perfect example, showing gritty use including Pete’s trademark rubbing raw of the barrel, yielding a large area of light brown wood in a sea of black coating around it -- not an easy get on a Rose bat. There are also the 6 meticulously wrapped and evenly-spaced tape rings around the handle and a 5” swath of tape wrapped tightly around the area just below the middle trademark. Personal model bat is stamped “Genuine PR4192” in white with Rose’s facsimile signature on the barrel. We don’t know how many rarefied hits Pete racked up using tihs hammer, but it’s a good bet (we couldn’t resist) some jumped off that patch of naked wood and hurtled through the infield like grasshoppers, since Pete obviously used the bat to death. No matter how one feels about Rose’s continued banishment from the game, no one can take the hit record from him. It is one of the game’s legendary achievements. Thus, there’s no argument that this bat, at least, belongs in the Hall of Fame. Fortunately, you can grab it for your own personal display case instead.
