1985 Red Auerbach Award Presented to Larry Bird

1985 Red Auerbach Award Presented to Larry Bird

The Red Auerbach Award was officially founded in 2006, but this rare award bearing the same name was given out to Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird in 1985. Perhaps it was presented in association with the founding of a fund in his name. Regardless, this 15.5"-tall prize is the only Larry Bird award that we have ever handled as he won the NBA's MVP award that summer (his second of three straight). It consists of a wood base with gold plaque that reads: "RED AUERBACH AWARD PRESENTED TO LARRY BIRD FOR THE EXAMPLE YOU SET TO OUR YOUTH WE DO CARE TOMMIE CLIFTON FOUNDER AUGUST 30, 1985." On top of the base is a figural, metal basketball player plated with a gold colored finish. The award is in EX condition.
