1985 "Spend A Buck" Kentucky Derby Winning Halter, Bit, Rein & more
From one of the most historic Kentucky Derby wins ever, it still ranks as the 4th fastest finish ever. This was a historically important win as Spend A Buck's owner, Dennis Diaz, opted to skip the Preakness and Belmont to win the largest purse ever, the $2.8 million prize at Garden State, the largest single purse in American racing history. This great collection of memorabilia includes a 20x16" framed photo of Spend A Buck running the Derby and a nose piece of halter which is padded with blue material covering it, a bit, and a rein, among others. These very important and historic items show use and can be matched to various photos of Spend A Buck during the Derby. It is also worthy of note that Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero, Jr. was the jockey who held the reins in the Derby win. This came directly from the family of the horse's owner Dennis Diaz. We sold his Kentucky Derby trophy in our last auction for over $188,000, a world's record.
