1986-1989 Paul O'Neill Rookie-Era Cincinnati Reds Game Used Bat

1986-1989 Paul O'Neill Rookie-Era Cincinnati Reds Game Used Bat

Paul O'Neill Louisville Slugger pro-model ("M110") bat dating from the 1986-1989 manufacturing period. This is not only an early rookie-era Paul O'Neill game-used bat, but one of finest overall examples we have ever handled. The bat, which measures 34 inches in length and weighs 30.75 ounces, displays significant use throughout, including numerous ball marks (including black-ink transfers), ball-seam impressions, cleat marks, blue rack marks, pine tar, and a small crack in the handle. A wrap of white tape, applied in a crisscross manner, extends sixteen inches up the handle. O'Neill's uniform number ("21") is written in black marker on both the knob and barrel end. O'Neill has signed the bat in black Sharpie (8/10) on the "sweet spot" of the barrel. O'Neill appeared in three games with the Cincinnati Reds in 1986, but the following year he made the club as a regular and played in half the team's games, earning a starting role near the end of the season. In 1988 he became the club's starting right fielder and remained so for the next four seasons. A key member of the Reds' 1990 World Championship club, he was later traded to the New York Yankees in 1993, where he helped lead the team to four World Championships. O'Neill retired in 2001 with 281 home runs, 1,269 RBI, and a .288 lifetime average.
