1986 Rusty Wallace Winston Cup Race Worn Suit (Gifted by Wallace)

Displayed is a 1986 Rusty Wallace racing suit, race worn in that year's Winston Cup Series by the Hall of Famer. The consignor's relative was Wallace's secretary and Rusty gave her the suit. Wallace began NASCAR racing in 1980, and in 1984 he was the NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year. Wallace won the 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship. When Wallace race wore this 1986 suit was in the 38th season of Pro Stock Car Racing in the United States and the 15th Modern-Era Cup series season. Dale Earnhardt won the '86 Winston Cup, and Rusty Wallace finished sixth, with two victories and 3,762 points. Wallace's two Winston Cup race wins in '86 were in Race #5 in the Valleydale 500, driving a Pontiac, and in Race #24, at Goody's 500, also driving a Pontiac. With 55 career points-race wins, Wallace ranks 11th all-time as a Winston Cup Series winner. Wallace has recovered from numerous raceway flips, and he is an inductee of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, and the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame. He continued to race on some level until 2016 but had already begun his transition to motorsports broadcasting. The racing suit, primarily royal blue and white, shows outstanding use. "Rusty Wallace" is embroidered in black underneath the Winston Cup Patch on the left breast. There are three wash tags in the neck, all from Sampson Safety Equip., Inc, and a small hole on the front, near the waist. 1) A statement that no safety warranty is made. 2) A notice that Nomex underwear must be worn under the suit. 3) A notice stating that "Auto Racing is hazardous" and stating that the suit is made of Nomex. Advertising patches on the suit: an Alugard patch on each epaulette; an Alugard patch on each sleeve; two Alugard patches at the neck; a Winston Cup Series NASCAR patch; On the chest - Modine; Champion; Moog; Pontiac Motorsports; Goodyear; Simpson; one Simpson patch on a sleeve. In addition, across the back is a stenciled "Alugard." The following are approx. measurements of the suit: length - 63", sleeves - 25", chest - 36", waist - 34". There is a small hole in front near the waist. There are a few tiny stains. Included with the offering is an 8x10" black and white photo of Rusty Wallace posed in front of his Alugard race car at the Daytona International Speedway. The offering makes a great collectible as a race worn suit, showing outstanding use, from a Hall of Fame NASCAR driver.
