1987-88 Dennis Johnson Boston Celtics Warm-Up Jacket (MEARS)

1987-88 Dennis Johnson Boston Celtics Warm-Up Jacket (MEARS)

Dennis Johnson is a James Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, and yet both during and after his brilliant 14-year NBA career, Johnson has often been underrated. Johnson's forte was simply helping teams to win games and championships, and because he was so versatile and since many of his skills did not involve high offensive numbers, it is easy for many observers to overlook the immense value that he brought to his teams. Displayed is a 1987-88 Dennis Johnson Boston Celtics game worn warm-up suit. In his NBA career, Johnson was with the Seattle Supersonics (1976-77 to 1979-80), Phoenix Suns (1980-81 to 1982-83), and Boston Celtics (1983-84 to 1989-90). He was a 5-time All-Star, a 2-time All-NBA, a 9-time member of the NBA's All-Defensive Team, and a 3-time NBA Champion. Johnson, at 6'4", could play both point guard and shooting guard, and while he was mostly a shooting guard in the first part of his pro career, when he came to the Celtics in 1983-84, to fill a Celtics' need he became mostly a point guard for his years in Boston. Johnson won an NBA Championship on the 1978-79 Seattle Supersonics and two NBA Championships with Boston: '84 & '86. The displayed jacket was worn by Johnson while he was warming up for games and while he was on the bench. A Sand-Knit manufacturer's exclusive tag and a Sand-Knit size 46 tag are sewn in the neck, along with a box tag indicating a 1987 year of issue. CELTICS is screened on the chest in yellow and white applique, along with three-leaf clovers screened to each sleeve in the same style, while a JOHNSON nameplate, green block letters on a white background, is sewn to the reverse. The warm-up jacket shows moderate use. The offering comes with a MEARS LOA. MEARS does not grade warm-ups, but this one has been deemed AUTHENTIC by MEARS.
