1987 New York Giants George S. Halas Trophy
George Halas, his contributions to the game of football are immortal and invaluable. As a player, coach, owner, or executive (of which he mastered all 4), he’s a stand out on any team. And he played for one of pro football’s most famous franchises. As a coach he was responsible for signing the Galloping Ghost, “Red” Granger, to the Bears and he recorded 321 career wins as a coach! How fitting that the award named after him be reserved for the most courageous player in football. Trophy is appropriately beautiful, an impressive work of art. Foundation is solid oak carved into the shape of a football with the top and bottom surfaces being flat. Bottom lined with black felt. One of two plates attached to the front of the wooden part is raised lettering which reads, “GEORGE S. HALAS TROPHY”. The plate below that is engraved with “1986 Champion of the perfectly smooth, flat surface with two ornaments mounted. One is a sculpture of 10 football players in action against a concave wall. The other is a block letter “N” (.75” thick and 2.5” wide) with three stars stamped on both sides. Trophy measures 8.25” from base to highest point, 10” wide (middle of football), and 16” long. NRMT condition. This is an extra trophy, identical to the one awarded to the Giants.
