1987 Paul Molitor 39th Consecutive Game Hit Ball w/Other Memorabilia (Molitor Letter)

1987 Paul Molitor 39th Consecutive Game Hit Ball w/Other Memorabilia (Molitor Letter)

Impressive game ball dates from the actual final hit in the thrilling 1987 hitting streak by Milwaukee Brewers Hall of Famer Paul Molitor. Of course, Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak in 1941 remains in the imagination of baseball fans of all stripes, generating tremendous attention on the rare occasions in which any player has even threatened to approach it. Such was the case for Molitor in '87 as his run of 39 consecutive games with a hit garnered national attention and remains the 5th-longest such streak in Major League history. This Official American League (Brown) ball is the one actually used for the final hit in that streak, and the ball is signed and heavily inscribed in Molitor's hand in blue ballpoint ink. The Hall of Famer signed just to the left of the sweet spot along with "#39" in 9/10 strength. To the right of the signature is the inscription, "This is 39th hit during hit streak, Aug 25, 1987." Below, to the left of the main stamp is boldly written, "Single off Don Gordon - bottom of 6th - Brewers-10 - Indians-9." Included are other items which, like this gem, originate directly from Molitor's personal collection, highlighted by a hand-painted presentational baseball that the Brewers gave to him in recognition of the feat. Other items from that collection are: 1) Yellow commemorative pinback indicating "I was there" with the date, measures 2.5" in diameter. 2-4) Three autographed baseball cards celebrating the event. 5-7) Three signed color images relating to the streak. 8) Limited Edition collector's coin (sample). 9) State of Wisconsin proclamation from Governor Tommy Thompson proclaiming September 11, 1987, as Paul Molitor Day (mounted on wood plaque to 10.5x16"). Comes with Molitor signed cert for the streak baseball.
