1988 Topps Baseball Complete Set with (700+) Signed
1988 Topps baseball complete set of 792 cards each signed on the front by the respective player, with the exception of the six checklist cards. A few duplicates are included. This set features numerous Hall of Famers and stars, many more than once on different cards, including Ryan, Yount, Niekro, Puckett, Gossage, Rose, Brett, Gwynn, Molitor, Carter, Musial, B. Gibson, Henderson, Sutter, Blyleven, Dawson, Sutton, Rice, Eckersley, McGwire, Bonds, Clemens, Glavine, Guidry, and Baines. Some of the cards feature two players and in those instances, each card has been signed by at least one of the players pictured and sometimes both. It is hard to estimate the amount of time and effort it took for our consignor to complete this set, but it was certainly considerable and one would be hard pressed to duplicate the feat today. The following 10 card numbers have been encapsulated, with the signatures certified as "Authentic," by the respective grading company: 70, 231, 269, 303, 360, 391, 405, 473, 693, and 779. A few others are accompanied by LOAs or COAs from either PSA or JSA. In a collection of this size, it must be assumed that some of the signatures are secretarial or clubhouse examples. We estimate that approximately 10%-12% of the signatures in the collection fall into that category, possibly including those on card numbers 1, 2, 4, 10, 21, 51 (two examples), 102, 134, 200, 231, 300, 320, 361, 385, 386, 388, 392, 394, 400, 443, 450, 460, 495, 510, 580, 600, 650, 661, 699, 750, and 759. The signatures, signed in a variety of inks, range from 5/10 to 10/10, averaging 8/10. The cards are in Excellent to Mint condition overall.
