1989 James Worthy NBA Finals Los Angeles Lakers Game Worn Jersey and Goggles (Photo-Matched)
Classic 1988-89 James Worthy game worn Lakers jersey and goggles, exceptional pieces from a dominant era that has been photo-matched to the 1989 NBA Finals and 1989 Western Conference Finals. Getty #142601066 matches the jersey to the 1989 NBA Finals and Getty #88196212 to the 1989 Western Conference Finals. The match to the 1989 Finals was dated incorrectly by Getty because they say the photo is from the 1988 Finals, however the Lakers did not have the black memorial bands on their jerseys during the that series. This purple road jersey bears a black memorial band on the left shoulder for Larry Fleisher, one of the founders and longtime director of the NBA Players Association, who passed away on May 11th of 1989, one day before Game Two of the 1989 Western Conference Semifinals. The Lakers played ten games in the Playoffs after May 11th including the NBA Finals against the Detroit Pistons. Completing the picture is the distinctive goggles that Worthy wore on the hardwood, which have a strip of tape in middle as well as supporting the elastic band, which is present. A conclusive photo-match for the goggles cannot be found but it is highly likely that they were worn the same games as the jersey. Stylized Lakers is across the chest in yellow-on-white above the number 42 in 3-D style, which also appears on back beneath his name stitched in individual letters. Nice use shown with small blue stains in left sleeve, likely from a Pistons uniform in the NBA Finals, as well as wear to numbers and loose threads. Worthy helped propel Los Angeles to three NBA titles during his Hall of Fame career.
