1990 Christian Okoye Kansas City Chiefs Game Worn Jersey (Photo-Matched)
Christian Okoye Kansas City Chiefs road jersey conclusively photo matched to multiple games during the 1990 season. As indicated in the accompanying two individual LOAs issued by Sports Investors Authentication, Okoye first wore this jersey against the Denver Broncos in a Monday-night game at Mile High Stadium on September 17th. In that contest, Okoye rumbled for 69 yards on 20 carries, while catching one pass for 7 yards in the Chiefs 24-23 loss. Okoye wore the jersey a second time against the Los Angeles Raiders at the LA Memorial Coliseum on November 25th, where he ran for 30 yards on 9 carries in a 27-24 Chiefs victory. The white mesh jersey features the number 35 on the front, reverse, and each sleeve. All numerals are screened in red on gold. "Okoye" is lettered on the reverse in red on gold tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson" label and two adjacent flag tags, one bearing the size (46), and the other reading "6 INCH X-LENGTH." The jersey is all original and displays outstanding wear, indicative of multi-game use. Numerous team repairs are evident throughout, as are several scuffs and paint transfers. The amount of wear on the jersey is not surprising given that Okoye was nicknamed "The Nigerian Nightmare" for his bruising running style and penchant for breaking tackles; Okoye was indeed every defensive back's nightmare when he broke through to the secondary. Standing over six feet tall and weighing 235 pounds, Okoye punished NFL defenders for six seasons (1987 to 1992), during which time he rushed for 4,897 yards, including a career-high and NFL leading 1,480 yards in 1989. Okoye helped lead the Chiefs to the playoffs in three of his six seasons, and following his career he was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Fame. An outstanding, fully documented game jersey worn by one of the NFL's most imposing running backs of the era. Two full LOAS from Sports Investors Authentication.
