1990s Harlem Globetrotters #22 Game Worn Uniform

1990s Harlem Globetrotters #22 Game Worn Uniform

Displayed is a visually appealing Harlem Globetrotters #22 game worn uniform, one that absolutely pops with color. The Harlem Globetrotters were founded as an all African American team in 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, playing under the name Savoy Big Five. Soon, they were bought by promoter Abe Saperstein, and he owned the team until 1966. In 1927, the team was called the New York Globetrotters, and to take advantage of the renown of the Harlem neighborhood in New York City's upper Manhattan, the team became the Harlem Globetrotters. The team played serious basketball and finished second to the Harlem Rens in the country's first professional basketball tournament in 1939. After World War II, as the NBA became integrated, barnstorming opportunities for purely serious basketball games were diminishing, so the Globetrotters turned to comedy, and they became an international sensation, literally becoming globetrotters as they traveled the earth. Famous players included Goose Tatum, comedy king Meadowlark Lemon, fantastic dribbler Marques Haynes, and Curly Neal, who was a more modern version of Marques Haynes. Neal played for 22 seasons and wore #22, Neal retired in the 1980s, and the uniform is from the 1990s, and it cannot be determined which player or players wore the uniform. The jersey has sewn on red, gold and white lettering on the front that read, "ORIGINAL HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS." The front of the jersey also has six stars, also in the red, gold and white colors. The back of the jersey also uses the same colors as the front and has a sewn-on globe symbol, six stars, and the number "22." The jersey has a "Speedline" manufacturer's tag on the left sleeve. Another Speedline tag is on the lower outside tail, showing the size as L. Included in the uniform is a pair of the iconic Globetrotter shorts, with the vertical red and white stripes. On the interior waist is a Speedline manufacturer's tag showing "XL" as the size. On the front interior of the shorts is a white drawstring. The uniform shows very light wear, and it is in excellent condition. The eye-appeal of the Globetrotter uniform is amazing as the colors just burst forth and carry the imagination right to courtside and the marvelous Globies.
