1992 Ken Griffey Jr. Seattle Mariners Game Worn Jacket (Team Sourced & Style Matched)
Seattle Mariners jacket worn by Hall of Fame outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. in 1992. This is first example of this style Mariners jacket we have seen and it has a unique provenance. In February, 1993, Ball 4 Sports, a Maryland company, purchased a large collection of game-used equipment directly from the Seattle Mariners. This jacket was included in that purchase and shortly afterward was offered publicly, along with all the other material obtained from the Mariners, in the company's advertised merchandise listings. Our consignor purchased it at that time and it has remained in his possession until now, making it basically new to the hobby. (The 1992 Ken Griffey Jr. All Star Game photo-matched jersey, along with several other Griffey Jr. items offered in this auction all originate from the same collection.)The blue nylon button-down jacket displays the Mariners' logo patch on the left breast and Griffey Jr.'s uniform number ("24") on the right breast. A Starter label (size XL) appears in both collar and interior left tail. The jacket is original as issued, and displays light wear. Although 1992 marked Ken Griffey Jr.'s fourth season in the Major Leagues, he had already established himself as one of the game's all-around best players. That reputation was solidified by his final batting numbers that season, which included 27 home runs, 103 RBI, and a .308 average. He also won his third consecutive Gold Glove Award at season's end. Please note: the Seattle Mariners letter to Ball 4 Sports and the original advertisement listing this jacket in 1993, images of which are posted on our website, DO NOT accompany the jacket. They are for informational purposes only.
