1993 Juan Gonzalez Babe Ruth Home Run Crown
Created in 1956 by the Maryland Professional Baseball Players Association, in honor of Maryland's favorite son, the "Babe Ruth Crown" is awarded annually to the most dominant slugger in the game. Originally known as the "Sultan of Swat Award, the crown was bestowed upon Juan Gonzalez following his first All-Star season of 1993. This high-quality piece of hardware features a polished brass finish with embossed brass lettering that reads: "BABE RUTH CROWN PRESENTED TO JUAN GONZALEZ FOR OUTSTANDING BATTING ACHIEVEMENTS 1993 MARYLAND PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION" and "1993 ALL STAR GAME - A.P. ALL STAR TEAM - SPORTING NEWS A.L. ALL STAR TEAM SILVER BAT AWARD - BATTING AVERAGE .310 - HOME RUNS 46 - RUNS BATTED IN 118." The six 'points' of the crown each retain their original colored glass gemstones inset onto baseball-shaped fields. This highly-prized premium item has been awarded to some of the game's all-time greats, such as Joe DiMaggio, Mike Schmidt, Henry Aaron, Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Pete Rose and Johnny Bench, to name just a few.The crown - which also features maroon crushed velvet in the center - was obtained directly from Gonzalez and is in EX condition. Babe Ruth crowns are among the most desirable of baseball awards right behind the MVP and Cy Young.
