Created in 1956 by the Maryland Professional Baseball Players Association, in honor of Maryland's favorite son, the "Babe Ruth Crown" is awarded annually to the most dominant slugger in the game. Originally known as the "Sultan of Swat Award, the crown was bestowed upon Juan Gonzalez following his first All-Star season of 1993. This high-quality piece of hardware features a polished brass finish with embossed brass lettering that reads: "BABE RUTH CROWN PRESENTED TO JUAN GONZALEZ FOR OUTSTANDING BATTING ACHIEVEMENTS 1993 MARYLAND PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION" and "1993 ALL STAR GAME - A.P.
