1996 Michael Jordan Victor Award - NBA Player of the Year
1996 Victor Award presented to Michael Jordan in recognition of his being named the "NBA Player of the Year." The Victor Awards have been presented annually since 1966 by the National Academy of Sports Editors as part of a fundraising effort for the City of Hope Cancer Center in Los Angeles, California. Awards are issued to both professional and amateur athletes in several categories, with former recipients including Tiger Woods, Reggie Jackson, Mia Hamm, Mark Spitz, Elgin Baylor, and Serena Williams.The design of the trophy is similar to that of an "Oscar" and features a gold-colored metallic figure sitting upon a black marble base. The engraving on the gold-colored plaque encircling the base reads "Victor Award XXX/Michael Jordan/NBA Player Of The Year/Voted By The National Sports Media/City Of Hope/1996."
