1997 Albert Belle Chicago White Sox Signed Game Used Bat
Albert Belle Hoosier Bat Co. model HB B1 bat dating from his 1997 season with the Chicago White Sox. Measuring 35” in length and weighing 32 ounces, the bat displays light use, including a ball mark, light adhesive residue on the handle, and a handle crack. This bat is notable for having one of the thinnest handles we have ever seen on a pro-model bat, measuring just 2.5” in circumference (the handle circumference of an average bat is approximately 4”). The bat’s length, “5” (denoting 35”) is stamped in the knob, and the bat’s original factory weight of 32 ounces is written above it pencil. Belle has signed the bat in gold paint pen (10/10) on the side of the barrel, below which he has noted its year of use, 1997. Belle’s uniform number (8) is written on the top of the barrel in gold paint pen (an additional notation is illegible). 1997 was Belle’s first season with Chicago and he continued his assault on American League pitching, finishing the year with 30 home runs, 116 RBI, and a .274 batting average. One of the top sluggers of his era, Belle hit over 40 home runs on three different occasions and retired in 2000 with 381 home runs and 1,239 RBI.
