1997 Alex Zanardi Signed Race Worn Helmet from Marlboro 500 Crash - His Last Helmet of Points Leading Season
Used racing helmet matched to the last round of the 1997 CART season by Alex Zanardi. Red, white, and blue themed Simpson racing helmet is covered with sponsorship logos, with "A. Zanardi" painted on each side of the neck collar. Displayed use is punctuated by an abrasion to the top right temple area, where a roughly 3x1.5" gash has seen the paint entirely stripped away. This is a result of one of the two serious crashes involving Zanardi during trials for the Marlboro 500, for which he was deemed incapable to participate due to the wrecks. Still, he had accumulated enough points without that race to claim the CART championship. Signed on the white field at the very top of the helmet in 10/10 black, fine point Sharpie.
