1999 Ken Griffey Jr. Seattle Mariners Game Used Glove (PSA)
Rawlings "Pro-TB" model fielder's glove used by Hall of Fame outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. during the 1999 season. Griffey's name is embroidered in gold on the top of the thumb. Features include a Rawlings "Fastback" adjustable fleece-lined wrist enclosure and finger "HolDster," a dual-laced extra snug sixth finger "Trap-Eze" web, a soft "Deer Tanned Cowhide" palm and finger sleeves, and a tri-laced palm hinge. A thumb stabilizer has been inserted into the thumb sleeve. As noted in the accompanying PSA LOA, the glove features tight lacing on the finger tips and especially the web, which was done at Griffey's request, and is a key trait of Griffey game-worn gloves. The glove displays evidence of excellent use, including moderate wear to the pocket, and appropriate fading to the gold-foil stampings. Included with the glove is a 1997 Fleer Ken Griffey Jr. Headliners card that pictures Griffey wearing an identical model glove while with the Mariners. Of all the game's legendary sluggers, Griffey Jr. is one of, if not the only one who was as equally talented in the field as at the plate. Considered one of best defensive outfielders of all time, Griffey won ten consecutive Gold Glove Awards between the years 1990 and 1999 and his acrobatic and wall-climbing catches were always among the most memorable plays on the nightly highlight reels. Griffey Jr. game-worn gloves are much rarer than game-used bats for the simple reason that players use far fewer gloves than bats during their careers. This is an outstanding Griffey Jr. glove dating from his final season with the Seattle Mariners. Full LOA from PSA.
