19th Century Mets Baseball Photograph

19th Century Mets Baseball Photograph

This hand-tinted photograph shows players from the original Metropolitans from 1880-87, who played in the American Association league at the Polo Grounds in New York City. While the players and the origin of this image are unknown, the legacy of the team carries on - today's Mets were named in part to suggest continuity with the Metropolitans. The 20th century Mets played their first two seasons at the Polo Grounds before it was ultimately torn down in 1964. The photograph is in its original ornate frame and measures 16x20". Both the frame and photo are VG.
