2001 Tony Fernandez Toronto Blue Jays Signed Game Worn Jersey Gifted to Cito Gaston

<p>Displayed is a game used Tony Fernandez jersey that was gifted to Cito Gaston, his former manager with the Toronto Blue Jays and the first African American manager to win a World Series when he managed Fernandez and the other Blue Jays to the 1993 World Series championship. Tony Fernandez was a slick fielding shortstop who played 12 seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays and was also with six other teams in his 17-year Major League career. Fernandez won four consecutive Gold Gloves with Toronto. He was a 5-time All-Star who led the American League shortstops in assists for two seasons. Fernandez was no slouch as a hitter, as he hit .288 lifetime in the regular season and was 49 for 150 in the post season for a .327 career mark. Sadly, Fernandez passed away in 2017 at age 57. The white home jersey is signed in the right chest with a black marker. "Blue Jays" is in blue letters with black trim across the chest. The number "1" is in blue with black trim on the lower left front. An American League Centennial patch is on the right sleeve. A neck tag reads "48 01 1". The right sleeve has a Toronto Blue Jays 25th Season patch. The back neck has an MLB patch. "FERNANDEZ" is in blue letters with black trim across the top of the back. The numeral "1", in blue numerals with black trim, is under the name. On the lower left outside tail is an "Authentic Majestic" manufacturers' tag, and under that tag is a smaller tag reading "48" for size. The jersey shows nice use. There is a team repair where Velcro was used to replace a missing third button down the front. Overall, the jersey is in good condition, and it serves as a fitting remembrance of Fernandez, of whom sportswriter Scott Carson said, "[Tony] Fernandez has collected the most hits in franchise [Toronto] history, but more importantly, he is a great man. As a shortstop, he exhilarated fans with acrobatic plays, and a clutch bat."</p>
