2002 Manny Ramirez Boston Red Sox Game Worn Jersey
Boston Red Sox home jersey worn by outfielder Manny Ramirez during the 2002 season. The white knit jersey is lettered "Red Sox" across the front and features the number "24" on the reverse. All letters and numerals have been applied in red on navy tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Russell Athletic" label, a "2002" year tag, a "52" size tag, and an additional tag reading "+2" Extra Length." The jersey is all original and displays light wear. This jersey was obviously worn by Ramirez during the first half of the season only, because it does not feature the black memorial armband and memorial number "9" on the right sleeve, which was added to every Red Sox jersey following the death of Ted Williams on July 5th of that year. (There is no evidence that the armband and number were removed.) 2002 marked one of Ramirez's finest all-around seasons. In addition to his league-leading totals in both batting average (.349) and on-base percentage (.450), he also hit 33 home runs, and drove in 107 runs. A member of baseball's elite 500 Home Run Club, Ramirez finished his 19-year career with 555 home runs, 1,831 RBI, and a .312 lifetime average.
