2002 Mo Vaughn New York Mets Game Worn Jersey

2002 Mo Vaughn New York Mets Game Worn Jersey

Presented is a game used Mo Vaughn New York Met jersey from his 2002 season with the team. Vaughn received the nickname "The Hit Dog" while he was playing baseball for Seton Hall University, and the Connecticut native played 12 seasons in the Major leagues: Boston Red Sox (8), New York Mets (2), and Anaheim Angels (2). The powerfully built first baseman batted .293 for his Major league career, with 328 home runs and 1064 RBIs. The 3-time All-Star was the American league MVP in 1995 with Boston when he batted .300 with a league leading 126 RBIs. Mo came to the Mets for the 2002-03 seasons. He hit .259 for the Mets in 2002, with 26 homers and 72 RBIs. Throughout his career, Vaughn was very popular with fans because of his outgoing personality and his extensive charity work. Across the chest of the gray, away jersey is "New York" in ornate blue letters with orange rim. The jersey has silver buttons. A patch on the right sleeve reads, "1962/2002 Mets 40th Anniversary". Under this patch, two small American flags are embroidered as well as an embroidered "9-11-01". On the left sleeve is a Mets patch and a Rawlings logo. On the left chest is "42", in blue numerals with orange trim. On the lower inside rear tail are tags: 1) An MLB Authentic Collection Rawlings manufacturers' tag, with washing instructions. 2) a 2-inch extra length tag. 3) A size "54" tag. 4) A "Set 1 2002" tag. The back neck has an MLB logo. Under that is "VAUGHN" in blue letters with orange trim and "42", in blue numerals with orange trim. The jersey shows light game use. This Mo Vaughn jersey has high value because when Major League Baseball retired Jackie Robinson's number 42 in 1997, players who were already wearing the number were permitted to continue wearing it. Mariano Rivera, a Hispanic player from Panama, was the last MLB player to regularly wear "42". Vaughn wore "42" to honor Robinson, his hero" in 1991-98 with the Red Sox and again in 2002-03 with the Mets. Vaughn's wearing of "42" during the 2002-03 seasons marked the last time an African American player regularly wore number "42".
