2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics Torch & Participant Track Suit
The 2002 Olympic Torch Relay - which commemorated the first in Winter Olympics history 50 years earlier - began with its lighting in Greece and culminated 65 days later in Salt Lake City. That fantastic flame-bearer appears in all its glory, complete with original soot from the flame inside the glass-encased top piece. It measures 32.5" in length and bears the XIX etching inside on all three pieces of the bronze flame guard. There's a "045" sticker at the chrome base and raised etching on the aluminum face with "SALT LAKE CITY" appearing between the insignia and Olympic logo. Also included in the lot are an undershirt, hat, gloves, map of the torch run and photo of the consignor during the event, as well as his full suit, which is white and bears various logos and wording such as "SALT LAKE CITY 2002 OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY" and "SALT LAKE 2002 - LIGHT THE FIRE WITHIN." There's a zipper-down satin jacket, as well as wool sweatshirt and satin pants with zippers on the lower legs. The white wool hat and gloves feature embroidered silver Olympic rings. Each shows very good use. The torch and suit come from our consignor, who participated in the torch run.
