2003 Donnie Shell Carolina Panthers NFC Championship Ring
Donnie Shell was a feared defensive back on some of the legendary Pittsburgh Steelers teams from the 1970s and '80s, but this NFC Championship ring is from his second career in the NFL - one spent with the Carolina Panthers from 1994 through 2009. Shell, a five-time Pro Bowler as a strong safety, was Director of Player Development for the 2003 Panthers, known as the "Cardiac Cats" due to their penchant for close games that season, one which concluded with a heartbreaking, last-second loss to Adam Vinatieri and the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII. This 14k white gold, Size 12, Jostens ring came directly from Shell himself and is in NRMT condition, along with the beautiful, original wooden box in which the ring is contained. The ring's face, reading "CAROLINA PANTHERS", surrounds 18 diamonds in the shape of a football which cradle a blue stone featuring the Panthers logo. One side of the ring identifies its original owner, reading "SHELL", as well as "CARDIAC CATS". The team's record - "14-6" - is etched into this panel of the ring, as well, along with Shell's position with the club - "STAFF" - and an image of a Carolina Panthers helmet. The other side of the ring reads "NFC CHAMPIONS" at the top, and the year - "2003" - is noted at the bottom. In between, the NFC logo is etched above a stadium and the logo for Super Bowl XXXVIII. Between the ring's top and two panels, the entire circumference of this beautiful piece of jewelry is lined with a string of diamonds, as well. The ring is stamped on its inside by Jostens and marked as 14k gold.
