8/28/41 Jackie Robinson Last Football Game Full Ticket SGC Authentic
When one is defining Jackie Robinson's athletic talents, the word amazing becomes understatement. Robinson was a four-sport star for the Bruins. In track and field, he set Pacific Conference and NCAA records in the long jump, and he likely could have been on the U.S.A. Olympic team in 1940 and 1944 if the Olympics hadn't been cancelled because of World War II. He played forward on the basketball team (at 5'11") and led the Southern Division of the Pacific Coast Conference in scoring in both 1938-39 and 1939-40. In football, as a back, Robinson led UCLA in passing, running, and scoring in 1940. He played safety on defense and even kicked extra points. Robinson led the nation in punt returns in both 1939 and 1940. Baseball? In 1940, future Hall of Famer Robinson batted only .097. He would improve. Seven years later he would break Major League Baseball's color line and become the National League rookie of the Year for the Brooklyn Dodgers. On August 28, 1941, Robinson was a player on the college All-Stars as they played the previous year's NFL champion in an annual exhibition game. Before a crowd of 98,203 at Chicago's Soldier Field, the Bears defeated the College All-Stars 37-13. On one play, Robinson sped down the sideline, raced past his defender, and caught a 46-yard pass from Charley O'Rourke for a touchdown. The full ticket to the game was for a seat in the "Soldiers and Sailers Section." The ticket is in good overall condition, but the underside of the ticket has discoloration while the front of the ticket is very preserved. The ticket has been encapsulated and graded SGC AUTHENTIC. With the 75th Anniversary of Robinson breaking the baseball color line in 2022, all things Robinson could likely be in high demand.
