907-09 H. M. Taylor & Dietsche Tigers Postcard Collection w/Tigers Team feat. Ty Cobb (4)

Displayed is a group of four H.M. Taylor and Dietsche postcards, each over a century old, featuring the Detroit Tigers of 1907-09. 1) Postcard shows the American League Champion Detroit Tiger team of 1907. The team lost to the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. Hall of Fame outfielder Ty Cobb, in only his second Major League season, is pictured third from the left in the middle row. He hit .350 and stole 53 bases in that season. Great Hall of Fame outfielder Sam Crawford is shown third from the left in the top row. Crawford hit .323 in '07. Hall of Famer Hughie Jennings, the Tiger manager, is in the front row, in the middle. The card was addressed to a person in Wisconsin, and the handwritten message reads, "This is the Detroit Tiger team that won the pennant." 2) Features a photo of third baseman Bill Coughlin batting. It is on a one cent postcard, with the photo by Fred Griffith. 3) Depicts George Mullin, a Tiger pitcher. The card has a description that reads, "He is six feet tall and weighs over 200 pounds.... the "Iron Man" of the Detroit pitching staff." What an apt description, as Mullin pitched an amazing 357.1 innings. 4) This card pictures Sam Crawford batting. The postcards measure 3.5x5.5" with each of the cards displaying pin/nail holes along the perimeter area. The offering is an intriguing group of vintage baseball postcards.
