983 Michael Jordan Team USA Pan Am Games Training Camp Worn Sneakers - Gifted to Kansas State Employee (MEARS & Consignor LOA)

Before "Air Jordans," six NBA Championships, and the "Unbeata-Bulls," Michael Jordan was one of the most talented collegiate hoops stars in the country when he played for the USA in the 1983 Pan American Games. The team of future-pros swept all eight games en route to a Gold Medal behind Kansas State Coach Jack Hartman, with Jordan leading the way in scoring. This amazing pair of Converse sneakers was worn by MJ during training for that tournament (though Jordan himself is noted to have preferred Adidas at the time, claiming the Converse kicks hurt his feet). Both sneakers are white with blue highlights, size 12 1/2, and show wear throughout. On the back right shoe there is a scuff mark near the Converse logo. Both shoe toe boxes show use and some scuffing. By way of provenance, our consignor was involved with coaching during a 2-week pre-tournament training camp run by Hartman at Kansas State, during which time he bonded with Jordan over their respective love of golf. As the camp ended, the phenom gifted these very sneakers to our consignor in a show of appreciation for his help in preparing for the tournament. Of course, Michael eventually beat the problem of whether his sneakers fit properly by creating his own iconic self-named brand, and the rest is basketball (and footwear) history. Comes with MEARS Authentic LOA.
