989 Ken Griffey Jr. Rookie Seattle Mariners Signed Game Used Louisville Slugger Bat with "Rookie Bat" Inscription (PSA GU 8)
A gem among gems, this 1989 Ken Griffey Jr. game used and inscribed baseball bat comes from the Hall of Famer's rookie season with the Seattle Mariners. Louisville Slugger Model C271 measures 33.75" and weighs 30.2 ounces, with heavy use evident including a repaired handle crack, some checking (grain separation), and numerous ball and stitch marks including blue paint transfers. There is a thin coat of what appears to be pine tar on the handle, also evident on the barrel. Per the included PSA LOA, it is believed that the substance on the barrel is related to the repair of the handle crack. The bat is signed in 9-10/10 silver Sharpie along with the inscription "Rookie Bat." PSA has given this specimen a GU 8 grade, though it should be noted that the LOA is for the bat only and not the signature. At age 19, Junior swatted 16 homers, a solid start to his career total of 630, which currently ranks 7th on MLB's all-time list. With 10 Gold Gloves and seven Silver Slugger awards to his credit, Griffey Jr. was enshrined as part of the Hall of Fame class of 2016.
