996 Sports Illustrated for Kids w/Tiger Woods RC

996 Sports Illustrated for Kids w/Tiger Woods RC

Here is a find: An uncut sheet with a very early card of Tiger Woods, a card produced just after he turned pro. In this December 1996 edition of Sports Illustrated For Kids, nine sports cards, produced by the magazine, are on the uncut sheet. Woods' card (#536) mentions that Woods turned pro in August [1996] after becoming the first golfer to win three straight U.S. Amateur Championships. The card also states, "On Oct. 6, won first pro title at the Las Vegas (Nevada) Invitational Tournament." The informative card mentions that Woods started playing at age 2, and by age 3 he could shoot a score of 48 for nine holes. Some of the other sports cards on the uncut sheet include football players Doug Flutie and Curtis Martin and Chinese skater Chen Lu. Tiger Woods is tied for first with Sam Snead for the most PGA tour wins, at 82 - and with 15 Major Wins, he trails only Jack Nicklaus, who has 18. Woods has the lowest career scoring average of any PGA player, and he has won the most money of any golfer in history. Although still an active player, he is already in the World Golf Hall of Fame. The magazine's uncut card of Woods shows him still shy of 21-years-of-age, at the beginning of his career as, in many opinions, the greatest golfer of all-time. Overall, the cards are in Very Good to Excellent Condition.
