Al Jolson Signed Display from Louis Huston Collection

Al Jolson Signed Display from Louis Huston Collection

Offered is an autographed display of a vintage signed 8x10" photo, inscribed to autograph collector Louis Huston from Al Jolson, who is most remembered for starring in the first "Talkie," The Jazz Singer. Once Sam Warner decided to make the movie a musical with the Vitaphone, he knew that Jolson was the star he needed. George Jessel who was supposed to do it, was told that he would have to sing in the movie and Jessel balked, allowing Warner to replace him with Jolson. Jessel never got over it. Comes with a letter on Al Jolson's stationery from his secretary, stating that "Under separate cover we are sending a photo autographed to you by Mr Jolson. Enclosed is your dime as there is no charge for photos. Thanks for the Russian stamp." The display is elegantly framed in gold gilt. Overall condition is EX+ and measures 16.5x25.5x1.5".
