Amazing "Italian Boys" Oversized Signed Photograph
This photo of an incredible quartet of New York Yankees is signed by three legends: Joe DiMaggio, Tony Lazzeri and Frank Crosetti. Jacob Ruppert has added to his signature "Italian Boys." We have seen this photo before. Taken in 1936-37, it was used to promote the Italian Connection and owner Ruppert's support for them at a time when anti-Italian sentiment was rampant. We have seen it signed before in a smaller format twice, which is a key as this was obviously an event where these were signed. Interestingly, it brought $5,000 over 25 years ago and it was a smaller format, and not signed by Ruppert. This size and a Ruppert signature has never been seen on this photo. In original black frame, the photo itself is 13.38x10.25". The rookie-era DiMaggio signature is a bit thin because of the pen, the ruppert signature is bold and thick with slight ink loss. Photo has a small edge chip, otherwise NM.
