Amelia Earhart 1934 Sky Birds Original Artwork
Renowned aviatrix Amelia Earhart soared to great heights thanks to her famous flight around the world, from which she never returned. This original painting was used for the 1934 Sky Birds card that comprised one of 48 in the original set, issued by National Chicle of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Several other pilots and pioneers were immortalized in a second series that included the original 48. It's nearly impossible to find the artwork, and this is arguably the best card in the set; card number 48. Framed and matted with one of the original cards (EX), the artwork includes pencil notations on the borders and is in EX condition. Earhart vanished without a trace during her final flight in 1937 and was presumed dead shortly thereafter. Her legacy is becoming the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, for which she earned the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross.
