Andre The Giant Wrestling Signed Photograph (PSA)
Presented is an Andre the Giant rare postcard sized promo photo from the mid-1970s, signed as simply "Andre." The professional wrestler's birth name was Andre Rene Roussimoff. Born in France in 1946, he weighed 13 pounds at birth. Suffering from gigantism, he grew to a billed height of 7'4" and a listed weight of 520 pounds. After moving to the North America, he wrestled for the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) for promoter Vince McMahon, Sr., who at first used Andre as a roving special attraction. Andre branched out into film acting, with his most memorable role being Fessik, a giant, in the 1987 film The Princess Bride. The WWWF was re-named the World Wrestling Federation, and Andre, spurred on by Bobby Heenan, his "nefarious" manager, became a rival to Hulk Hogan, defeating Hogan in 1988 to take the WWF Championship. Andre died from congestive heart failure in 1993. Outside the ring, Andre was a friendly man who didn't want to appear threatening, but his great size caused problems. He recalled, "Often when I go to [the] home of people who have small children, the children will run from me, even though they have seen me on television. I understand why they do this, but it is a sad feeling for me, even so." Andre is in the WWF Hall of Fame and the Pro Wresting Hall of Fame. The gentle giant once concisely explained why he became a wrestler. "I use what God gave me." Andre's signature on the 3.5x5.5" postcard is slightly faded, but still very visible. The front of the postcard appears to be around EX, while the back has some marks from being in a photo album. This rare and desirable photo has been encapsulated and graded PSA Authentic.
